Building Bridges

The OVA facilitates multiple collaboratives and coalitions with the goal of bringing stakeholders together to bridge gaps between community-based organizations, healthcare personnel, hospital systems, social service professionals, government agencies & policymakers. Building bridges provides space for sharing best practices, identifying collaboration opportunities, and maintains connectivity across sectors.

  • Perinatal Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Learning Collaborative

    In partnership with the Health Federation of Philadelphia, the OVA hosts a monthly Perinatal Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Learning Collaborative as a forum for city-wide discussion on issues pertaining to perinatal SUD, creating space for discussing real-time issues and sharing vital information. Collaborative participants include medical providers (MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs, RNs), social workers, case managers, doulas, certified recovery and peer specialists, program administrators, other public health professionals, and all members of the integrated team who provide care for pregnant and parenting individuals who use drugs.

  • Philadelphia Labor & Delivery Leadership Group (PLDLG)

    The PLDLG is a workgroup comprised of labor and delivery directors, nurse managers, and patient safety officers from each of the six delivery hospitals in the city that meets monthly to improve delivery-related maternal care. Accomplishments include: facilitation of a health information exchange through a lab sharing agreement, implementation of immediate postpartum LARC programs, and sharing best practices across several areas including substance use screening & referrals to resources like lactation support & behavioral health.

  • BirthBridge Philly

    BirthBridge Philly is an in-progress initiative led in partnership by the OVA & Penn Medicine. The project will conduct a landscape analysis, including provider surveys and community listening sessions, that will inform the establishment of a prenatal and postpartum care consortium. The goal is to set up a robust, interactive and connected network for healthcare sites that serve expecting and new parents.

  • Obstetrics & Managed Care Organization Task Force

    The mission of the OB/MCO Taskforce is to improve care coordination between managed care organizations and local delivery hospitals. The taskforce has worked to establish electronic resource referral pathways between prenatal care providers and MCOs and reimbursement models for Heart Safe Motherhood.

  • Cardiology Task Force

    A cardiology task force to make city-wide recommendations on enhanced care for women identified to be at high risk of cardiomyopathy or infarction. Accomplishments include:
